Elderberry Syrup | Herb Kit

Every year when it gets colder we see people getting sick with the flu and colds, but honestly we don’t have time to get sick with all we do on the farm. What is our secret?  We brew our own special blend of Elderberry Syrup.  As with most natural remedies, none of the information on this page has been evaluated by the FDA and we cannot make any sort of medical claims about the benefits of Elderberries.  However, I know there are a lot of ingredient readers out there.  We encourage you to find out what kind of benefits you may experience with each of these ingredients.

How do you make elderberry syrup?  Brew the herbs like a tea, strain, and add local honey to create a syrup.  Refrigerate the syrup and take 1-4 TBS every day (Adult Dose) during the cold and flu season.

New Recommendations based on 2020 Research on Elderberry

• Maximum benefit with elderberry is 2TBS morning and night per person, any more apparently has no added protective benefit according to the latest research.
• If you start with 2.5 cups of water, bring to boil and then immediately bring down to simmer, you will maintain most of your water and end at about 2 cups of liquid after straining.
• After straining, you can use the same herbs and repeat this procedure again which will give you close to a full quart of elderberry liquid
• At the rate of 4TBS total per day for 1 adult, 1 quart of elderberry liquid should last you about 16 days.
• Keep the elderberry syrup refrigerated between uses
• Expiration of elderberry syrup is 2 weeks after brewing
• *Note – Adding the 4 cups at once to do a single brew makes for a very diluted brew which is why we try to keep the total amount of liquid as close to 2 cups per brew as possible.
